Water Treatment for Hotels and Commercial Buildings

A hotel contains several distinct water users: guest rooms, kitchens, laundry and mechanical services. Their operating patterns and treatment priorities differ. Begin with an outlet and demand map so the selected equipment addresses a defined service rather than an assumed whole-building requirement.

What to include in your enquiry

  • Provide occupancy patterns, kitchen hours, laundry schedules and peak demand. Separate guest-service use from cooling or boiler make-up and landscape irrigation.
  • Identify the practical objective at each outlet, such as particle filtration or a specified reduction in dissolved solids. Include equipment manufacturers’ inlet-water requirements.
  • Document the supply pressure, storage tanks, plant-room access and maintenance windows. Note whether the source is municipal, well water or a combination.

Planning the treatment process

EPA facility guidance treats water use and management by end use. Apply the same discipline to treatment selection: assess whole-building filtration separately from dedicated RO supplies for selected services. Any mechanical-system treatment needs review against that equipment's water chemistry requirements rather than reuse of a generic kitchen-water design.

Common project questions

Does every hotel outlet need RO water?

Not automatically. Define the purpose and inlet-water specification for each service. The appropriate treatment can differ between a kitchen, laundry and cooling system.

Can room count determine system size?

It is useful context, but occupancy, food service, laundry and operating hours also matter. Provide meter records or estimated peak flows to support a more useful capacity discussion.
